Stallions and Mares
In order to breed outstanding horses it is necessary to match the right stallion to the right mare. To do so it is important that the breeder has great knowledge of genetics and how to breed a next generation, that outstands the already amazing previous one.
The mares of von Rosing Horses are of the highest quality and every one of them an elite dressage horse. Maria von Rosing knows of their strengths and due to her talent and experience is able to predict a fitting stallion to keep raising the elite standards of the dressage horses.
The Technique
ICSI and Embryo Transfer
ICSI – Intracytoplasmic sperm injection – is an in vitro fertilization technique where a single sperm is injected into an ooplasm of a mature oocyte.
The resolting embryo is then being frozen for a later transfer into the donor or a recipient mare.
Since each injection only requires one sperm cell ICSI is a very efficient method and allows to harvest more embyros from rare or sub fertile stallions than other insaminations would.
Embryo Transfer is a technique where the donor mare gets insaminated and aproximately 7 days after conception the embryo gets transfered into a reproductively competent recipient mare.

The Recipients
Carrier Mares
The breeding method allows that the donor mare does not have to carry out the foal herself. The embryo can be transfered to a recipient or carrier mare that is in sync with the donor mare. This mare does not pass on any genetics to the foal she is carrying, but makes it possible to have multiple offspring of the donor mare at the same time.
The carrier mares are then coming and living at the Château, raising the foals and being part of the herd until the foals are ready to be separated.
